About Railway Networks
The historical backdrop of Indian Railways traces all the way back to more than 160 years prior. On sixteenth April 1853, the principal traveler train ran between Bori Bunder (Bombay) and Thane, a distance of 34 km. It was worked by three trains, named Sahib, Sultan, and Sindh, and had thirteen carriages. The photograph to one side, while catching a scene from the beginning of rail routes in India, includes a train pulled by a solitary train, and is generally - yet mistakenly - accepted to be that first assistance
Only a few of years after that first train, the specialists of the Indian Railway took up the gigantic assignment of building a track over Bhore Ghat.
Worked at a height of 2000 feet, to associate Bombay with Poona, with passages and converse viaducts, the track was at long last built over a time of nine years and at incredible human expense.
1862: The Jamalpur Workshop
The principal Railway Workshop was set up at Jamalpur, close to Munger, Bihar, in 1862. It slowly got one of the major mechanical unit of India, with iron and steel foundries, moving factories and that's only the tip of the iceberg.
n 1864, the north got its first station - the Delhi Junction. The most seasoned one of the city, it was a significant station and intersection and remains so till date.
It was first settled close to Chandni Chowk in 1864 when trains from Howrah/Calcutta began working up to Delhi. The current structure was made functional in 1903.
The following significant station in the north was Lucknow. It was the base camp of the Oudh and Rohilkhand Railway (O&RR) whose first line from Lucknow to Kanpur was inherent April 1867.
Presently known as Lucknow Charbagh Station, it is essential for Northern Railway.
In 1880, The Darjeeling Steam Tramway (later the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway) began its first area among Siliguri and Kurseong. The line was reached out to Darjeeling in 1881.
The Line worked on Narrow Gauge and was agreed with World Heritage Status in 1999, the main Railway in Asia to get a particular standing.
